Modmooi quilting about me

Hello! I’m Suzanne.

I’m the human behind the machine 🙂 I’ve been quilting for almost 20 years and love everything about it. I’ve dreamt of owning a longarm for a long time and am super excited to be able to follow my passion, adding texture and dimension to your quilts.

A few random facts about me…

  • I learned to quilt from a beautiful group of ladies who mostly hand quilted. I very quickly realized I wouldn’t see many finished quilts if I went down that road!
  • I have 7 kids! The oldest 3 are finished high school and the youngest just started kindergarten.
  • A long walk or coffee with a friend is one of my favourite things to do.
  • As a family (when we had 5 kids) we spent 6 months travelling around New Zealand and came home with the best souvenir – our kiwi baby.

Why ModMooi?

Back in 2014, my friend Annette and I started an Etsy shop selling baby quilts and taking custom orders. When coming up with a name we thought of “Mooi”, the Dutch word for “beautiful.” With Dutch being Annette’s first language and me being married to a Dutch guy, it felt simple and perfect. We added “Mod” (modern) to the beginning to reflect our style and the name is now part of my quilting identity.

But…how do you say it? As an English speaker the easiest way to say it is “Mod-Moy.”
